FIRSTLY, SPECIMENS OF POLY(VINYL CHLORIDE) (PVC) FOAM WERE INVESTIGATED THROUGH EXPERIMENTAL ANALYSES IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THE MECHANICAL BEHAVIOR OF THIS ANISOTROPIC MATERIAL. SECONDLY, IT WAS USED ISOTROPIC MATERIAL MODELS IMPLEMENTED IN THE COMMERCIAL SOFTWARE ABAQUSTM, WHICH PRESENT LIMITATIONS TO SIMULATE THE MECHANICAL BEHAVIOR OF PVC FOAM, BUT THEY CAN BE MINIMIZED OR EVEN OVERCOME WITH A FINE PARAMETERS CALIBRATION. THUS, MATERIAL MODEL PARAMETERS AND HARDENING CURVES ARE IDENTIFIED BY THREE OR FIVE EXPERIMENTAL TESTS. HOWEVER, IT IS POSSIBLE TO CALCULATE DIFFERENT VALUES FOR THE SAME PARAMETER, DUE TO THE ANISOTROPIC RESPONSE OF THE MATERIAL. AFTER THAT, THE SET OF PARAMETERS OBTAINED ARE CALIBRATED, USING EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL ANALYSES ACCORDING TO THE APPLICATION TYPE OF THE MATERIAL. EVEN THOUGH THE CALIBRATION PROPOSAL IS APPLIED FOR PVC FOAM, IT STILL OUTLINES A VERY BROAD DRILL TO ANALYZE OTHER ANISOTROPIC CELLULAR MATERIALS.
